Vintgar Gorge

The majestic Vintgar Gorge is a must for all tourists spending their holidays in Lake Bled. It can easily be reached by the regular bus service from the resort centre which stops at the entrance to the gorge. The trail leading through the gorge is a fantastic experience and you really feel at one with nature. You find yourself on man-made walkways and crossing bridges back and forth across the gorge with the most spectacular views of the fast flowing water below boasting numerous rapids and pools with precipitous rock faces and towering trees until you reach the Sum waterfall. You need sensible footwear and the walk takes about an hour but it is not too arduous as you are on a purpose built path through the gorge.

For the more energetic it is a lovely trek to Vintgar from Bled. One option is to do a circular tour, setting off from Bled to the village of Podham and then onto Vintgar. Having walked through the gorge you can return via St Catherine’s Church to take in the breathtaking views overlooking Bled and the surrounding countryside and then pass through the village of Zasip as you return to Bled. Taking the bus there and walking back is a very good compromise. A mouth watering cake and cup of tea or coffee on your return will ensure the perfect end to a perfect day.

This is just one of the many lovely walks that can be taken during your stay in the resort. There are lots of trails for the keenest ramblers to embark upon, such as climbing Kuhovnica to see the fantastic panoramic lake views.

If you just want to keep to an easy stroll round the lake or to one of the neighbouring villages then that’s fine and if you just want to sit, relax, put your feet up and enjoy the views then that’s fine too. It’s your holiday so just enjoy! – but don’t forget to take your camera!
