Introduction to Lake Bled Resort

Just one look at Lake Bled will captivate the resort in your heart forever; it’s like a fairytale come true. Lake Bled, situated on the edge of the Triglav National Park, has to be one of Europe’s most beautiful resorts with its mountainous backdrop and stunning scenery.

The crystal blue water of the lake with its wooded shores and alpine foothills reflects the magnificent Julian Alps. As you stroll around the lakeside you will be in awe of its simple and stunning beauty. The colours of the abundant water lilies are a sheer joy. No Lake Bled holiday would be complete without a walk around the lake to take in all the wonderful sights it has to offer. There could be nothing more relaxing than spending a pleasant afternoon just strolling at a leisurely pace, lingering as you go to take in the view and the clear mountain air. If the walk could prove difficult or you want to pamper yourself you may prefer to tour round the lake in style, relaxing in the back of one of the horse drawn carriages available for hire in the town centre.

Slovenia boasts only one island and this can be found in the centre of Lake Bled. This small island in the lake is dominated by the pretty Church of St Mary dating back to around the 17th Century. Visiting the island, ringing the church bell and making your wish is a must for all tourists. The wishing well dates back to 1534. Taking the trip in the traditional small boat known as a Pletna takes about 25 minutes each way and is a smooth and enjoyable experience.

The lake is also famous amongst rowers and if you get up early on your holidays you may see them practising on the calm waters. Bled hosted the World Rowing Championships in 1966, 1979 and 1989 and will host the World Rowing Championship again in 2011.

Bled boasts the oldest castle in Slovenia and lives up to its fairytale scene. The views from the panoramic terrace over the lake with the Julian Alps, the Karavanke and Kamnik Alps in the background are just magnificent.

The resort has lots to offer the visitor, with plenty of shopping, restaurants and bars. You can enjoy a swim from the lakeside lido, hire a bicycle or have a game of minigolf. For the more serious golfer there are 9 hole and 18 hole scenic golf courses within easy reach. For walkers and ramblers the options are endless.

One memory your Lake Bled holiday that is sure to remain with you is the warmth and friendliness of the Slovenian people.
